City
Center Construction Update
The recently completed expansion
of the City Center Parking Facility added an additional 1,000 parking
spaces to downtown Oklahoma City. The new multi-structure garage and streetscape
incorporates an architectural style compatible with nearby buildings and
a skywalk, which links the two five-story structures. With steel gray
cornice frames around the fifth level perimeter and foil-like roofs on
the glass cased elevator towers, the City Center Garage was designed to
blend well with surrounding architecture. Even so, the facility retains
it’s own distinctive appearance. One unique element is the facility’s
ramp screen located on the east side. The screen’s purpose is to
obstruct the onlooker’s view of the concrete ramps. With programmable
LED lights embedded in the screen, it becomes a work of art capable of
displaying many colorful patterns.
The functionality
of the facility is considered to be the most important element. Patrons
will be close to the First Oklahoma Tower, Downtown Library, Union Bus
Station, Colcord Building, County Courthouse, Leadership Square, Robinson
Renaissance, Internal Revenue Services, Myriad Botanical Gardens, Stage
Center, Cox Convention Center and Ford Center. Monthly, hourly and special
event parking is available. With the expansion of Harvey Avenue, patrons
can enter and exit the parking facility with ease. The facility also includes
a well-lit walk-thru tunnel, emergency call boxes on each floor and an
office located on the 1st floor closer to Park Avenue.
The City Center
Parking Facility was designed by Architectural Design Group, Inc., the
firm that envisioned the SBC Bricktown Ballpark, Nichols Hills Public
School and Dobson Communications Corporate Headquarters. Lippert Brothers,
Inc. is constructing this enhanced parking complex. LBI is not a stranger
to downtown, they also built the Oklahoma City National Memorial, Crystal
Bridge and Downtown Transit Center.
